Analysis, application, and evaluation of community partnership process for health. Analysis of nursing role in community/public health, including community building, collaboration, policy.
Roles and Responsibilities include but not limited to:
• Literature Searches
• Development of educational and testing material
• Attend 1 hour faculty meetings (Wednesdays 11:30-12:20pm)
• Attend classroom sessions and seminars
• Present and assist in presenting course content as appropriate
Qualifications:
The Teaching Assistant for NCLIN 409 must have:
• Preference: Academic/clinical preparation in community health nursing
• Teaching experience is preferred
• Literature search skills and writing skills

Dolores Liebmann Fellowship ($18k/year)

The Graduate School Office of Fellowships and Awards is now accepting applications from students for the Dolores Zohrab Liebmann Fellowship. Mrs. Liebmann set up a trust fund to provide funding for graduate students of “outstanding character and ability who hold promise for achievement and distinction in their chosen fields of study.” This is the first year that the UW Graduate School has participated in this national fellowship competition; the UW is able to send three nominees to the foundation for consideration. The Office of Fellowships and Awards will collect all applications and a faculty panel will review and choose the nominees.
AWARD: The fellowship provides an $18,000 stipend plus tuition and may be renewed for a total of three years of funding.
FIELDS: Eligible fields are any recognized field of study in the humanities, social sciences, or natural sciences (including law, medicine, engineering, architecture, or other formal professional training).
ELIGIBILITY:
Must be in an advanced degree program at the UW
Must be U.S. citizen
Must have outstanding undergraduate record
Must show financial need
Must have received baccalaureate degree
Not advocate communism

Scholarship - Frances Tompkins - FNSNA

FOUNDATION OF THE NATIONAL STUDENT NURSES’ ASSOCIATION
The Foundation of the National Student Nurses’ Association (FNSNA) was created in 1969 to honor Frances Tompkins, the Association’s first Executive Director. Organized exclusively for charitable and educational purposes, FNSNA awards scholarships to qualified nursing students annually.
Scholarship recipients and sponsors are recognized at the National Student Nurses Association Annual Convention, Orlando, Florida, April 7-11, 2010 during the Opening Ceremony on Wednesday evening, April 7th.
The Foundation awards scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 annually. Scholarships may be applied toward tuition, books, and academic fees only. The scholarship may not be used to pay any other expenses that the student incurs.
FNSNA scholarship eligibility criteria include:
• Current enrollment and matriculation in a state-approved nursing program leading to an associate degree, baccalaureate, diploma, generic pre-licensure doctorate or generic pre-licensure master’s degree; or enrolled in an RN to BSN completion, RN to MSN completion, or LPN/LVN to RN program; Matriculation means the student has applied to a state approved nursing school and has been admitted into the nursing program.
• Pre-nursing students taking courses to prepare for matriculation into a nursing program;
• Attending classes and taking no less than six (6) credits per semester.

FOUNDATION OF THE NATIONAL STUDENT NURSES’ ASSOCIATION
Registered nurses enrolled in graduate level, degree-granting colleges and universities in selected regions of the US may be eligible to apply for a Promise of Nursing Regional Faculty Fellowship (PON Fellowship). The PON Fellowship is designed to assist RN’s who are preparing for the nurse educator role to achieve their degrees.
PON Fellowships are awarded annually and may be applied toward tuition, academic fees, and books. Award amounts range from $1,000 to $7,500 per academic year.
Eligibility Qualifications:
In order to be eligible for the PON Fellowship, applicants must meet all of the following criteria:
• Be a registered nurse holding a baccalaureate degree in nursing; students in RN to BSN or RN to MSN programs are not eligible to apply.
• Be a US citizen or an Alien with U.S. Permanent Resident Status/ Alien Registration Number

RA Position - NW Research Group on Aging

A Research Assistant position is available to join the Northwest Research Group on Aging (L. Teri, PI). The qualified candidate will work on the Staff Training in Assisted-living Residences (STAR) Study, a behavior management skills program to train staff to reduce affective and behavioral disturbances in persons with dementia residing in Assisted-living.
Essential Job Functions:
• Attend weekly meetings of the intervention team
• Set up appointments with study subjects
• Deliver the intervention in coordination with the lead trainer in group workshops and one-on-one sessions with subjects in Assisted-living settings
Qualifications:
• Must have a graduate degree or working towards a graduate degree in nursing, psychology, social work or health related field
• Experience working clinically with older adults
• Experience working in dementia research field preferred

Soroptimist Women's Opportunity Awards

The Soroptimist Women's Opportunity Awards give women the resources they need to improve their education, skills, and employment prospects. Each year, Soroptimist clubs in 19 countries and territories assist women in overcoming personal difficulties and bettering their lives through education and skills training.
This scholarship award is for $1,000. Recipients become eligible to receive region-level awards of $5,000 and then become eligible to receive one of three $10,000 International-level finalist awards.
Eligibility Requirements:
Women with primary financial responsibility for supporting your family (including children, spouse, siblings and/or parents; attend or have been accepted to a vocational/skills training program or an undergraduate degree program; and have financial need; and be motivated to achieve your educational and career goals.
Ineligible to apply:
Previous Women's Opportunity Awards recipients, women who already have an undergraduate degree and Soroptimist members, employees of Soroptimist, and the immediate families of both.
