Student Assistant - PRE-RN PROGRAM EVALUATION

Student Assistant Position 50% FTE

Summer Quarter 2012

Under the supervision of the Associate Dean for Academic Services and in collaboration with the Chair of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Coordinating Committee and Director of Admissions & Multicultural Student Affairs, provide data support for the BSN program, and Accelerated BSN program, and at the UW School of Nursing.

Roles and Responsibilities of the SA include:

  • Collect, analyze, and report data on BSN admissions, student evaluation BSN and the BSN program, including development and testing of program evaluation questionnaires and preparation of annual written reports of both BSN and ABSN program evaluation data.
  • Evaluate current BSN & ABSN students: Collect and analyze data on student satisfaction, favorite courses, courses needing change, outcome achievement, issues, suggestions, and employment status online (WebQ) at three times during the BSN program. Surveying beginning with Junior students, finishing Junior students, and finishing Senior students – and twice during ABSN, during the first and the last summer quarter. Report results to BSNCC and provide feedback to the students surveyed.

NCLIN 411B: Transition to Clinical Practice - This course focuses on critical examination, synthesis, and evaluation of professional nursing care with individual clients or groups reflecting diverse settings, ages, and ethnic communities. It emphasizes mastering theoretical concepts, applying research finding, improving skill competency, and developing clinical leadership capabilities. Class is held on Tuesday mornings from 7:30-9:20am in E214.

Roles and Responsibilities of the TA include:

  • Assist with Moodle site
  • Set-up GradeBook
  • Track assignments
  • Set-up laptop for presentations, including checking out the laptop from Classroom Services
  • Obtain references, literature review as needed

This course examines normal and pathophysiological responses to states of health and illness. It also examines internal and external defense systems, balance and regulation of body systems, and integration of these concepts in the assessment and management of patient problems. NURS 304 is held on Mondays from 1:10-3:20p and Thursdays from 8:00-9:40a in T639.

Roles and Responsibilities of the TA include:

  • Grading problem sets and other assignments
  • Taking answer sheets to upper campus for grading
  • Moodle website maintenance and support (posting of materials, etc)
  • Attend class and tutor students
  • Support technology applications for course
  • Run review sessions as needed

Research Assistant Position - Health Aging

This position would provide both administrative assistance and project coordination to activities through the Coordinating Center. Those will include organizing activities (approximately 70%) and research related activities (approximately 30%), TBD, as developed through one or more of the national core HAN Workgroups. The Graduate Student Research Assistant will report to the HAN Coordinating Center Program Manager (primary supervisor) and Principal Investigator. The position is currently funded June 15, 2012 – September 29, 2012, with a possibility for extended funding through September 2013.

Roles and Responsibilities of the TA include:

  • Multiple network projects have been launched through the HAN’s Mobility Workgroup.
  • Workgroup meetings and provide support to one or more of the workgroup’s initiatives by assisting with logistics.

Research Analyst 1 Position (25-50% FTE) Summer Quarter 2012

A UW School of Nursing research team is currently seeking a Research Analyst 1 with strong quantitative analytic skills to support research projects related to public health systems research in the department of Psychosocial and Community Health and led by Dr. Betty Bekemeier. Our research is focused on examining and comparing the outcomes of local public health department programs and practices and how health departments contribute to reducing health disparities. Research Analyst activities will not exceed 20 hours a week during this summer quarter 2012, but this could be a 10-20 hour per week (25-50% FTE) position as negotiated. The potential exists for this to expand into a 50% RA position into Autumn Quarter 2012 and beyond, and also for co-authoring related papers for publication.

Duties: Under the direction of the Primary Investigator, the successful applicant will:

  • Prepare and assess data for completeness and accuracy prior to analysis
  • Code data for analyses, as needed
  • Carry out analyses of county-level aggregated data using general regression models and hierarchical techniques
  • Analyze computer reports; prepare and present material for research team discussion,
  • Participate in writing methods and results for publication;
  • Review findings with study team and participate in interpretation of findings
  • Propose further analyses.
  • Work with programmers, systems analysts, budget analysts and other personnel to coordinate activities;
  • Participate in meetings to assist in developing methodology;
  • Perform related duties as required

Learning Lab Overview: The UW School of Nursing Center for Excellence in Nursing Education (CENE), or Learning Lab, is a state of the art learning resource center serving faculty and both undergraduate and graduate students. It includes print and practice materials for the performance of nursing health care therapeutics, specialized high-tech equipment commonly utilized in acute care settings, and interactive video disc (IVD) programs and video recording and playback equipment.

Major Responsibilities: The Teaching Assistant will work with clinical instructors, other Teaching Assistants and the CENE Director to support the lab.

  • Teach and evaluate basic nursing skills
  • Assist in helping students as necessary with lab course skills
  • Order supplies for lab
  • Setup supplies for weekly lab
  • Assist in preparation of course materials and lesson plans
  • Teach and assist in lab with undergraduate and graduate nursing students
  • Assisting in keeping track of student attendance in lab training periods
