A Teaching Assistant is needed in the Department of Psychosocial and Community Health. The Psychosocial and Community Health Nursing Department has an opening for a Teaching Assistant to provide support for NURS 417 Psychosocial Nursing in Health and Illness course/NCLIN 418 Practicum in Psychosocial Nursing communication skills lab.

Roles and Responsibilities of the TA include:

  • Facilitating small group sessions to learn psychosocial assessment, group, and therapeutic communication skills
  • Evaluation of small group assignments and development of educational and testing material
  • Posting and updating course material on the web
  • Assistance in grading papers
  • Duplication and distribution of educational material and assistance in course preparation
  • Assistance in tracking student assignments, attendance and other matters related to administrative tasks
  • Assistance in obtaining audiovisual equipment and materials as necessary for the classes
  • Providing assistance for students as necessary
  • Other duties as assigned when needed

Doris Duke Fellowship Opportunity

The Doris Duke Charitable Foundation and Chapin Hall at the University of Chicago invite outstanding doctoral students to apply for the Doris Duke Fellowships for the Promotion of Child Well-Being—seeking innovations in child abuse and neglect prevention (formerly named the Doris Duke Fellowships for the Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect). These fellowships are designed to identify and develop a new generation of leaders interested in and capable of creating practice and policy initiatives that will enhance child development and improve the nation's ability to prevent all forms of child maltreatment.

The application period for the third cohort of fellows opens on August 15, 2012. Applications are due by December 15, 2012. The third cohort will begin in the summer of 2013. Each fellow receives an annual stipend of $25,000 for up to two years.

The Graduate Staff Assistant will work with fellow GSAs and the Director of Admissions and Multicultural Student Affairs to carry out outreach and recruitment of students to all School of Nursing programs.

Roles and Responsibilities of the GSA include:

  • Coordinate and represent the School of Nursing at local recruiting events, both on campus and off, including CNE conferences, hospitals, career fairs, community college fairs, high schools, and community festivals, by involving faculty, students, alumni, and staff.
  • Respond to requests for information over email, phone, and by letter.
  • Advise prospective applicants on questions regarding the BSN, ABSN, MN, MS, PhD, DNP, and Certificate programs.
  • Collaborate with Academic Services staff; including Director of Admissions, Assistant Dean, BSN, MN/MS, DNP, and PhD program coordinators, and undergraduate advisor, to facilitate clear communication with potential applicants.
  • Offer individual appointments for prospective students regarding any questions they may have
  • Occasional other duties as assigned.

A Teaching Assistant is needed in the Department of Biobehavioral Nursing and Health Systems to provide support for NURS 301: Clinical Applications of Anatomy and Physiology (25% FTE). This course examines application of anatomic and physiologic concepts to selected clinical phenomena. Focuses on integrated responses and functional health patterns. Exemplars of developmental and lifespan factors are identified. Includes experiential activities to enhance integration of content. NURS 301 is held on Thursdays from 8:30-9:20a in T747 and Fridays from 10:30-1:20p in T747. Students must be available all Fridays from 10:30-2:30p since labs and some lectures alternate within this timeframe.
