NMETH 520 TA Position

Teaching Assistant Position(s) (50% FTE) Summer Quarter 2012

Provide support for NMETH 520 Scholarly Inquiry for Nursing Practice (5 credits). Analyzes conceptual, theoretical, and empirical knowledge as a basis for evience-based practice. Examines methodological approaches to scholarly inquiry and research applied to nursing practice. Evaluates role of advanced practice nurses in research. This is an online course.

Roles and Responsibilities of the TA (or RA or SA) include:

  • Course record-keeping
  • Moodle and E-Reserve course web site and other distance technology maintenance and support
  • Grading quizzes and other class assignments
  • Support of other course activities (e.g., communications with faculty and students, participation in discussion forums, perform literature searches, identify/develop course material)
  • Help students, as necessary, with course work and assignments
  • Other duties assigned when needed

NGNA Award and Scholarship Opportunities

The National Gerontological Nursing Association (NGNA) is proud to offer award and scholarship opportunities for 2012. Awards will be presented at the 2012 NGNA Annual Convention in Baltimore, Maryland.

Chapter Award

The Chapter Award honors the chapter that best promotes the goals of NGNA through their member relationships, community activities and promotion of community health issues. All chapters are encouraged to submit an application for this award.

Cindy Shemansky Travel Scholarship

The Cindy Shemansky Travel Scholarship was established to provide assistance to NGNA members who wish to attend the annual convention but who need financial assistance with travel expenses.

Distinguished Service Award

The Distinguished Service Award is presented to a member of NGNA in recognition of outstanding leadership, participation, and contributions toward achieving the goals of NGNA.

Excellence in Gerontological Nursing Award

The Excellence in Gerontological Nursing Awards has been established to recognize excellence in individuals who provide care to older adults. These awards are intended to honor an advanced practice registered nurse, registered nurse, licensed practical nurse, and/or a certified nursing assistant who has consistently provided outstanding care to older adults and have been inspirational role models and mentors to other healthcare workers.

Gerontological Nursing Student Leadership Awards

This award is sponsored by the NGNA Fellows. Three nursing students will be awarded a scholarship to attend the annual convention. This is an exciting opportunity for students who will be our next generation of gerontological nurses.

Mary Opal Wolanin Scholarship

The Mary Opal Wolanin Graduate and Undergraduate Scholarships were established to provide financial assistance to students intending to work with older adults. Applicants must intend to work in a gerontology/geriatric setting after graduation. A $500.00 scholarship may be awarded for each category.

BNHS TA Needed - NCLIN 302

Teaching Assistant Position(s) (25-50% FTE) Summer Quarter 2012

Two Teaching Assistants are needed (1-50%, 1-25%) in the Department of Biobehavioral Nursing and Health Systems to provide support for NCLIN 302: Practicum: Health Assessment. This course, which is the first in a series of clinical courses, emphasizes beginning nursing skills in using the nursing process, communicating, interviewing, and performing a health assessment of the individual and an introduction to family assessment. Class is held on Monday mornings from 8-11:20am. Sections meet Monday afternoons, Wednesday all day, and Friday mornings. Students are baccalaureate nursing students in first quarter of the curriculum. Roles and Responsibilities of the TA (or RA or SA) include:

  • Teaching Assistant will work with the instructor to provide assistance and support with class and course materials:
  • Teach small groups of novice RN students nursing assessment and psychomotor skills in the learning lab.
  • Attending class and assisting with equipment set-up for course instruction and in-class assignments
  • Course record-keeping
  • Posting and updating course material on the course web page
  • Assistance in tracking student assignments, attendance and other matters related to administrative tasks
  • Grading quizzes and other course assignments
  • Providing support for testing including proctoring exams, taking scantron to upper campus, and creating and offering review sessions
  • Other duties as assigned when needed
Required:
  • Must have strong Word and Excel skills and adeptness to learn new software, particularly Moodle and multimedia projectors, etc.
  • Must have strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Must be available to attend lecture and some of the sections.

    GSA - Academic Services

    GSA 50% Position Summer 2012

    A Student Outreach Coordinator (GSA 50%) is needed in Academic Services. Student Outreach Coordinators are responsible for student recruitment and outreach for all SoN Academic programs.

    The Graduate Staff Assistant will work with fellow GSAs and the Director of Admissions and Multicultural Student Affairs to carry out outreach and recruitment of students to all School of Nursing programs. Roles and Responsibilities of the GSA include:

    • Coordinate and represent the School of Nursing at local recruiting events, both on campus and off, including CNE conferences, hospitals, career fairs, community college fairs, high schools, and community festivals, by involving faculty, students, alumni, and staff.
    • Respond to requests for information over email, phone, and by letter.
    • Advise prospective applicants on questions regarding the BSN, ABSN, MN, MS, PhD, DNP, and Certificate programs.
    • Collaborate with Academic Services staff; including Director of Admissions, Assistant Dean, BSN, MN/MS, DNP, and PhD program coordinators, and undergraduate advisor, to facilitate clear communication with potential applicants.
    • Offer individual appointments for prospective students regarding any questions they may have
    • Occasional other duties as assigned.
    Qualifications:
    • Must be Nursing Graduate Student in good standing.
    • Excellent communication, public speaking and writing skills.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, and ability to solve problems creatively.
    • Demonstrated attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
    • Ability to travel with access to reliable transportation.
    • Ability to lift 20 pounds.
