A Teaching Assistant is needed in the Department of Psychosocial and Community Health, for NURS 303 Foundations of Professional Nursing: Exploration of the profession of nursing, including past and present work of nurses, the experience of being ill and seeking health care, and the U.S. health care system. Class meets on Tuesdays, 9:30-12:20 [Faculty: Dr. Stephen Padgett]

Roles and Responsibilities of the TA include:
  • Evaluation of class assignments
  • Development of educational and testing material
  • Literature search, duplication and distribution of educational material
  • Assist in preparation of course materials, and assist in presenting course content when appropriate
  • Assist in keeping track of student assignments, attendance and other matters related to administrative tasks
  • Assist in grading papers or tests, helping students as necessary with course work and assignments
  • Other duties as assigned when needed
Qualifications:
  • Must be Nursing Graduate Student in good standing
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team; ability to solve problems creatively
  • Ability to provide feedback and guidance to students in writing and library-research projects
  • Experience setting up laptops and LCD projectors for digital projection
  • Experience posting and updating course material on the web
  • Experience grading papers and tests

RA Position - Patient & Partner Intervention - ICD study

RA 25-50% Patient and Partner Intervention After an ICD study Mid-Spring 2012

This RA position encompasses participation in an intervention research study to test two (2) nursing interventions in patients who have an implanted cardioverter defibrillator (ICD). The job responsibilities include data entry, data tracking, using SPSS for data analysis, conducting health histories by telephone, tracking medical records, participation in team meetings, other.

The RA is reserved for doctoral students who have an interest in CV disease and want to get their dissertation research using data from the grant.

The position will begin in mid-Spring quarter as an hourly position, with the possibility that it will become 50% in summer quarter. The position will last for one (1) academic year and can be extended.

Barbara Cochrane, Director of the de Tornyay Center, will discuss her experience with the development and review of student applications for de Tornyay Center Healthy Aging Research Scholarships, UWRA Scholarships/Fellowships, and Hartford Geriatric Fellowships. This will be an excellent opportunity for students to ask questions about compelling ways to write about a gerontology-related research idea for funding. Every year the de Tornyay Center is honored to offer Healthy Aging Scholarships to support and nurture students pursuing research in the field of gerontology. These scholarships provide unrestricted funds for UW BSN, MN and doctoral (both DNP and PhD) students. We encourage students from the Bothell, Seattle and Tacoma campuses to apply. This undergraduate course provides our students with theoretical and practical information relevant to the nursing care of older adults across the continuum of care and is scheduled from Mondays from 8:30-10:20AM in Genome Sciences 060.

      The Corps loan repayment program now begins with an initial award of up to $60,000 for two years of service. You may receive up to $170,000 in loan repayment for completing a five-year service commitment and, with continued service, may be able to pay off all eligible student loans. More Flexible Options to Complete Your Service. The loan repayment program now offers three options for fulfilling your service obligation - a two-year full-time contract, a four-year half-time contract, and a two-year half-time contract. Increased Credit for Teaching. The service obligation for clinical practice hours has been updated to include a 20 percent credit for teaching and a 50 percent credit for teaching at a Teaching Health Center. Eligibility:

      Rural Remote Training Grant

      Targeting Everett’s Health Disparities

      Provide support for Targeting Everett’s Health Disparities (TEHD) Training Grant: Project objectives are to: (1) Reduce health disparities in Snohomish County by increasing access to and quality of primary care services, with particular emphasis on expanding and strengthening geriatric, pediatric, and mental health services. (2) Expand undergraduate and graduate nursing education experiences, improving student knowledge and skill in providing culturally sensitive care for MU groups.       Nursing Scholarship Program

      HRSA Nursing Scholarship Program

      Nursing Scholars fulfilling their service commitment receive a competitive salary and benefits package, which they negotiate directly with the employing facility.

      The purpose of the Nursing Scholarship Program (NSP) is to provide scholarships to nursing students in exchange for a minimum 2-year full-time service commitment (or part-time equivalent), at an eligible health care facility with a critical shortage of nurses. Scholarships are awarded competitively and consist of payment for tuition, fees, other reasonable costs and a monthly support stipend.

      Recipients of the NSP award are required to fulfill their NSP service commitments within the United States, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, the Territory of Guam, the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas, the U.S. Virgin Islands, the Territory of American Samoa, the Republic of Palau, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, or the Federated States of Micronesia.

      Service: NSP provides nurses with an opportunity to increase access to care by delivering nursing services in eligible health care facilities with a critical shortage of nurses.

      Scholarship: NSP provides:
      • Funds to support nursing school tuition and fees;
      • an annual payment for other reasonable costs to cover expenses for books, clinical supplies, and instruments; and
      • monthly stipends to cover living expenses.


      Eligibility:
      • Be a U.S. citizen (either U.S. born or naturalized), U.S. national, or a Lawful Permanent Resident.
