NIH Loan Repayment Programs
Purpose: These programs often allow scientific investigators to remain in the research workforce, achieve research independence and focus their efforts on advancing the health of the nation. Opportunities are available in clinical research, pediatric research, health disparities research, contraception and infertility research, and clinical research for individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds. Each year, some 1,600 research scientists benefit from the more than $70 million NIH invests in their careers through the extramural LRPs.
BENEFITS: New LRP contracts are awarded for a two-year period and help repay up to $35,000 of qualified educational debt each year. Tax offsets also are provided as additional benefits. Participants may apply for competitive renewals, which are issued for one or two years. Undergraduate, graduate, medical school, and other health professional school loans qualify for repayment. An NIH grant or other NIH funding is not required to apply for or participate in the LRPs.
ELIGIBILITY: Applicants must possess a doctoral-level degree (with the exception of the contraception and infertility research LRP); be a U.S. citizen, national, or permanent resident; devote 20 hours or more per week to conducting qualified research funded by a domestic nonprofit, university, or government entity; and have qualified educational loan debt equal to or exceeding 20 percent of their institutional base salary.

RA Position - Psychosocial Intervention Study

Work as part of a research team to carry out a psychosocial intervention study for community-dwelling individuals with depression following a stroke. The primary tasks of the research assistant will include subject screening, recruitment and enrolment, tracking, follow-up, and data collection and entry
Roles and Responsibilities of the RA include:- Maintain a dependable work schedule.
- Strong organizational skills and able to implement protocols as written.
- Course record-keeping.
- Able to work daytime and evening hours when needed to carry out screening and follow-up.
- Must be Nursing Graduate Student in good standing.
- Medical-surgical nursing experience.
- Experience with the care of individuals following stroke desired.
- Knowledge of psychosocial research process desired.
- Able to work independently and demonstrate initiative in scheduling and carrying out duties.

Teaching Assistant - NURS 401

A Teaching Assistant is needed to provide support for NURS 401: Care in Illness I. This course is core content in the undergraduate curriculum emphasizing nursing care of acute and chronic health conditions, particularly including in-patient care. NURS401 Instructor: Dr. Karen Thomas, Department of Family and Child Nursing.
Roles and Responsibilities of the TA include:- Working with the instructor to provide assistance and support with class and course materials.
- Attending most lectures (Mon 8:30-11:20, Wed 9:30-11:20).
- Conducting individual & small group help sessions with students.
- Transporting exams to Office of Educational Assessment.
- Must be Nursing Graduate Student in good standing.
- Current nursing licensure in State of Washington.
- Experienced in medical-surgical and/or pediatric acute care nursing.
- Recent clinical experience in acute care nursing.
- Teaching experience preferred.

NLN Foundation for Nursing Education

The National League for Nursing Foundation for Nursing Education Scholarship Awards program encourages more seasoned and ethnically diverse nurses to become nurse educators through scholarships. One goal of the NLN Foundation for Nursing Education is to award endowed scholarships to nurses pursuing advanced nursing or related degrees in preparation for careers as full-time academic nurse educators. The funds are for masters or doctoral students enrolled in accredited programs. Three awards will be available: two awards for $2,500 and one award for $3,000. HRSA Nursing Scholarship Program
Nursing Scholars fulfilling their service commitment receive a competitive salary and benefits package, which they negotiate directly with the employing facility.
The purpose of the Nursing Scholarship Program (NSP) is to provide scholarships to nursing students in exchange for a minimum 2-year full-time service commitment (or part-time equivalent), at an eligible health care facility with a critical shortage of nurses. Scholarships are awarded competitively and consist of payment for tuition, fees, other reasonable costs and a monthly support stipend.
Recipients of the NSP award are required to fulfill their NSP service commitments within the United States, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, the Territory of Guam, the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas, the U.S. Virgin Islands, the Territory of American Samoa, the Republic of Palau, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, or the Federated States of Micronesia.
Service: NSP provides nurses with an opportunity to increase access to care by delivering nursing services in eligible health care facilities with a critical shortage of nurses.
Scholarship: NSP provides:
- Funds to support nursing school tuition and fees;
- an annual payment for other reasonable costs to cover expenses for books, clinical supplies, and instruments; and
- monthly stipends to cover living expenses.
Eligibility:
- Be a U.S. citizen (either U.S. born or naturalized), U.S. national, or a Lawful Permanent Resident.
- Be enrolled or accepted for enrollment as a full or part-time student in an accredited nursing degree program.
