RA Position - Clinical Informatics Research Group (CIRG) Spring quarter 2012 Will continue through summer, perhaps beyond

Looking for students who program in PHP and/or Java to work on open-source health informatics software with the UW’s Clinical Informatics Research Group (CIRG). Health/clinical experience not necessary; experience working with Linux systems and databases is a plus.

Gain experience working here at UW with teams on domestic and international clinical and public health projects. Opportunities for collaboration on posters and publications. Work includes mobile development with open source tools such as Apache Callback/Cordova, cPRO, and OpenDataKit.

RA Position - Patient & Partner Intervention - ICD study

RA 25-50% Patient and Partner Intervention After an ICD study Mid-Spring 2012

This RA position encompasses participation in an intervention research study to test two (2) nursing interventions in patients who have an implanted cardioverter defibrillator (ICD). The job responsibilities include data entry, data tracking, using SPSS for data analysis, conducting health histories by telephone, tracking medical records, participation in team meetings, other.

The RA is reserved for doctoral students who have an interest in CV disease and want to get their dissertation research using data from the grant.

The position will begin in mid-Spring quarter as an hourly position, with the possibility that it will become 50% in summer quarter. The position will last for one (1) academic year and can be extended.

Northwest Navy Nurse Corps Association Scholarship

The Northwest Navy Nurse Corps Association has established a fund to award scholarships to deserving nursing students and Registered Nurses to continue their studies toward a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing. The amount of the award will be $1,500.00. They are awarding this scholarship to increase awareness of both Navy Nursing as a career option, and of their association, the Northwest Navy Nurse Corps Association. Acceptance of this scholarship does not commit the recipient to service in the military. No information concerning applicants will be shared with recruiters. KCNA Scholarship

KCNA is proud to help ensure the future of nursing in our community by offering scholarships to deserving nursing students who attend school (or have a permanent address) in King County. In May, KCNA will award 12 scholarships of $2500 each to nursing students for the 2012-13 academic year. Three classifications of student are served:

  • basic (those seeking initial licensure as RNs)
  • diploma nurses who are returning to earn Bachelor’s Degrees
  • nurses who are pursuing advanced degrees in nursing or related fields.

To be eligible, the student must attend an accredited nursing school and have a GPA of 3.0 or greater. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic performance, community service, and involvement in school or professional activities.

Barbara Cochrane, Director of the de Tornyay Center, will discuss her experience with the development and review of student applications for de Tornyay Center Healthy Aging Research Scholarships, UWRA Scholarships/Fellowships, and Hartford Geriatric Fellowships. This will be an excellent opportunity for students to ask questions about compelling ways to write about a gerontology-related research idea for funding. Every year the de Tornyay Center is honored to offer Healthy Aging Scholarships to support and nurture students pursuing research in the field of gerontology. These scholarships provide unrestricted funds for UW BSN, MN and doctoral (both DNP and PhD) students. We encourage students from the Bothell, Seattle and Tacoma campuses to apply.       TA 50% Position Spring 2012

      Provide support for NURS 522 Legal and Ethical Issues in Advanced Practice Nursing: Focus on construction and analysis of research-based philosophies and theories related to nursing practice at the community, population, and systems levels. Synthesize and apply knowledge about social and environmental justice, determinants of health, and human health responses to populations and communities. Examine and evaluate leadership roles for nurses in community settings. Class held on Wednesday afternoons from 1:30-4:20p. Students are baccalaureate nursing students in second year of curriculum.

      Roles and Responsibilities of the TA include:
      • Attending class: NURS 522 meets from 1:30-4:20pm on Wednesdays throughout Spring quarter
      • Posting and updating course material on the course web page
      • Assistance in grading papers, tests and in-class assignments
      • Duplication and distribution of educational material
      Qualifications:
      • Must be Nursing Graduate Student in good standing.
      • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
      • Excellent literature search skills and writing skills
      • Ability to work independently
      • Enrollment in the PhD program and former teaching experience
