A Teaching Assistant is needed to provide support for NMETH533: Evidence Appraisal Course. This course is core content in the DNP curriculum emphasizing evidence-based literature, clinical appraisal of various research designs, methodology, and statistics.

Provide support for NURS 525: Managing Clinical Effectiveness within Care Systems. There is an emphasis on designing, managing and evaluating clinical effectiveness and efficiency within care systems.
Roles and Responsibilities of the TA include:

NCLIN 407
One Teaching Assistant is needed at 50% in the Department of Biobehavioral Nursing and Health Systems to teach a clinical group of students for NCLIN 407: Nursing Care of Ill Adults. This course provides supervised nursing care to ill adults and their families. Emphasis on systematic assessment and comprehensive clinical management of hospitalized ill adults. Course coordinators are Dr. Vicky Hertig and Dr. Terri Simpson.
Roles and Responsibilities of the TA include:
- TA will work with the course coordinator in supervising students in clinical settings
- Teach or Co-teach one small group of novice undergraduate nursing students in a medical surgical nursing setting.
- Assist students with selecting appropriate patients for clinical assignments.
- Review and evaluate students’ preparation for clinical sessions and nursing care plans.
- Contribute to and conduct mid-term and final clinical evaluations.
- Attend a weekly one-hour connected teaching meeting.
- Other duties as assigned when needed.

Presidential Management Fellowship Program
DEADLINE: NOVEMBER 19, 2012, 8:59 pm PST.
This two-year paid fellowship includes challenging assignments, potential for accelerated promotions, developmental assignments, and networking opportunities. Finalists appointed as PMFs have the opportunity to be hired by Federal Agencies and engage in solving domestic and/or international issues in areas such as public administration, engineering, technology, science, criminal justice, health, and financial management, to name a few.

CSSS Grad Student Grant Opportunity

CSSS Graduate Student Research Presentation and Training Grant
The Center for Statistics and the Social Sciences (CSSS) will award a limited number of grants for graduate and undergraduate students and postdoctoral researchers working with CSSS faculty affiliates, and junior CSSS faculty affiliates to assist in presenting research and attending workshops or courses. Suggested target dates between January 1, 2013 and June 30, 2013 are eligible for support.
The grants will be awarded on a competitive basis by the CSSS Executive Committee for the purpose of presenting papers and attending workshops or courses related to the long-term goals of CSSS, notably research in social statistics and quantitative methods in the social sciences, and collaborative research between social scientists and statisticians.
Preference will be given to proposals for which other sources of support are not available. Priority will be given to graduate students, post doctoral researchers and, on occasion, undergraduate students. CSSS Seed Grant recipients may also apply. The awardee should acknowledge the support of CSSS in the course of any presentations.

Stay Fit in College Scholarship
For Immediate Release: StayFitInCollege.org, which promotes fitness in college, has just announced scholarship awards for the 2012/2013 academic year. There is no purchase necessary to apply for the scholarship. The scholarship award aims to help students avoid the dreaded freshman 15.

JIA Arthritis Foundation Dissertation Award
From their website: Provides one or two years of salary and/or research support. The research project must be related to arthritis management and/or comprehensive patient care in rheumatology practice, research or education. Not for laboratory research. The award amount is $30,000 per year.
Eligibility Criteria: The Doctoral Dissertation Awards are designed for pre-doctoral students who will receive doctoral degrees from U.S. institutions. Applicants should be entering the research phase of their degree program. The thesis supervisor must approve the project which must be related to arthritis management, comprehensive patient care in rheumatology practice, or arthritis research. Suitable studies include, but are not limited to, functional, behavioral, nutritional, educational, occupational, or epidemiological aspects of patient care and management. Drug studies and laboratory in vitro studies are not appropriate. A candidate must have membership or eligibility for membership in his/her professional organization.
Citizenship/Work Abroad: US citizenship is required. Awards may be used to study abroad if it seems in the best interest of the candidate's future career and has approval from the degree granting U.S. institution. However, no provisions are made for travel expenses.

From their website: "The National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR) Graduate Partnerships Program (GPP) is a doctoral fellowship training program that coordinates training and funding for doctoral students attending a school of nursing. The program combines the academic environment of a university and the breadth and depth of research at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The goal of the program is to encourage and support the training of nursing doctoral students who are motivated to undertake careers in basic or clinical research.
"As part of a coordinated plan of graduate education, students will complete the majority of required coursework at the academic institution in which they are enrolled. Dissertation research will be conducted within the Intramural Research Program (IRP) of the NIH in Bethesda, Maryland. Both an academic advisor and NIH scientist will serve as co-mentors for the dissertation process. All of the academic institution requirements for the doctoral degree must be fulfilled. Students will receive their doctoral degree from the academic institution in which they are enrolled."

The Doris Duke Charitable Foundation and Chapin Hall at the University of Chicago invite outstanding doctoral students to apply for the Doris Duke Fellowships for the Promotion of Child Well-Being—seeking innovations in child abuse and neglect prevention (formerly named the Doris Duke Fellowships for the Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect). These fellowships are designed to identify and develop a new generation of leaders interested in and capable of creating practice and policy initiatives that will enhance child development and improve the nation's ability to prevent all forms of child maltreatment.
