TA Position - PHARM 514

TA 50% Position Spring 2012

A Teaching Assistant is needed in the Department of Biobehavioral Nursing and Health Systems to provide support for PHARM 514 Pharmacotherapeutics for Advanced Nursing Practice. This course explores pharmacogenetics, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, pharmacotherapeutic issues, evidence-based efficacy studies, clinical applications, and patient - related factors such as age, socioeconomic status, and behavioral aspects that support the selection of commonly used drugs for patients of all ages across settings. Selected drugs within categories are compared and contrasted as to indications for use, efficacy, therapeutic and adverse effects, monitoring parameters, dosing principles and common drug interactions. Drug therapy requirements based on individual patient needs are emphasized. PHARM 514 is scheduled from 12:30-1:50 on Tuesday and Thursday in T-661, but all assignments and exams will be offered online and all lectures will be videostreamed.

Roles and Responsibilities of the TA include:
  • Grading problem sets and other assignments
  • Course record-keeping
  • Moodle website maintenance and support (posting of materials, etc)
  • Course support activities such as communications with faculty, guest faculty, and students
  • Tutor students
  • Attend class
  • Introduce and thank guest lecturer(s)
  • Support technology applications for course
  • Other duties such as finding relevant, current readings as needed
Qualifications:
  • Must be Nursing Graduate Student in good standing
  • Must have strong Word, Excel and web skills
  • Must have strong organizational skills
  • Must have recent clinical experience as an RN
  • Preferred: have completed graduate level physiology and pathophysiology courses
